The Daewoo Lanos was a popular sub-compact car from the Daewoo Corporation of South Korea. Manufactured between 1997 and 2002, the Daewoo Lanos was replaced by an updated model called the Aveo in North America. A version of the Lanos is still available, although it is no longer made by Daewoo. Such is the complexity of the modern auto industry that the Polish FSO Lanos is, to all intents and purposes a Daewoo Lanos. Demand for Daewoo parts for servicing and repairs to the Lanos will remain high for some time to come; and some DIY motoring enthusiasts also look for Daewoo Lanos used parts for repairing their auto.
In the USA the Daewoo Lanos was available in two models as a hatchback and a sedan, each with a variety of trim levels to choose from. Both models were powered by a four cylinder 1.6 liter engine and had a five gear stick shift transmission as standard, with the option of a four speed automatic transmission. The most popular trim levels for the Daewoo Lanos in the USA were the SX and Sports models; both of which included air-condition and power assisted steering and brakes.
The fact that the Daewoo Lanos was a subcompact car was both a benefit and a hindrance to its sales. Being a small car it was highly economical to run, genuine Daewoo parts for repairs were not expensive; it was easy to park and maneuver and thrived on ‘town’ driving. Against its favor was that it wasn’t an ideal car for anyone over 6 feet tall to drive and space in the back was limited, despite it being marketed as a five-seat auto.
As, in one form or another, the Daewoo Lanos is still being manufactured obtaining Daewoo parts to service or repair a Lanos is unlikely to be an issue for many years to come. At different times in its history Daewoo has been owned by GM and Chevrolet, so it is also in their interests to maintain a supply of genuine Daewoo parts for Daewoo Lanos owners. The international auto market being what it is today there will also always be third party manufacturers producing spare parts for the Daewoo Lanos. To buy a used Daewoo Lanos today would not be expensive and anyone interested in repairing and maintaining their own Daewoo Lanos can access companies dealing in Daewoo Lanos used parts through the internet, or by visiting a local breakers yard. Using Daewoo Lanos used spares is fine for anything other than an essential safety feature. For example buying a Daewoo Lanos used part to replace a seat or even an engine is fine; but you should never use used parts to replace brakes or tires.
